The last time I hopped on a bike was over 5 years ago, when my husband and I spent a weekend in Whistler, and before that it was when I was 11-ish years old. I’ve been wanting to buy a bike for years now and never got around to it, until a month ago…
My client, Christina, came in for a hair service and was telling me that her neighbour, (a good friends with Christina’s late mom, Anna), was clearing out her garage and offered to give Christina her daughter’s old bike. It wasn’t exactly the right fit for Christina but she kept it in hopes to pass it along to someone who could use it. When Christina heard that I was shopping for a bike, she offered it to me! I was so excited and eager to take if for a spin, that I picked it up within a few days. It needed a little TLC, but for a starter bike, it was perfect! It hadn’t been ridden in years, so I took in to the experts at Reckless Bike Store, in Kits where they pumped my tires, replaced the breaks and adjusted my seat. Of course I added a basket, because no bike is complete with out a basket – right?! And then I discovered a blogger named Alison Lucien, who is the owner of Elanor’s Style Stylish Bicycle Accessories for Ladies. She actually based out of New York and I LOVE her blog and business idea. Her bike shop offers a great selection of bike accessories that are stylish and functional for women, and she shares tips and tricks for looking “french girl chic” not “tour de france” — what’s not to love about this?!
I’ve been really working on having a work/life balance and I try to ride my bike when ever I get the chance. I love feeling the breeze in my hair and freely cruising around and exploring. I don’t always know where I’m going but I trust, and follow, my inner compass and it always seems to lead me to great places. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Life is a journey, not a destination”, and the journey has been great so far!
I’m loving the denim trend this season. We’re seeing denim on denim jeans with jacket (aka: “The Canadian Tuxedo”), denim overalls, denim cutoffs with a boyfriend shirt, and of course, the denim dress. I saw this sleeveless little number at Winners and thought it was perfect for our gorgeous Vancouver summer. I love the comfort and ease of dresses because you don’t really have to think about what to wear it with; you just slip it on and off you go! I styled it with a woven leather belt, to cinch in and define the waist. For footwear, I slipped on these cute metallic gladiator sandals, which I picked up a few seasons ago from Aldo Shoes, then added this cute cross-body little purse, to hold my essentials like lipstick, iphone and keys. This purse is a Value Village find for only $10. To complete the look, I accessorized with my fave RayBan sunnies and my Jeweliette Jewellery studs and compass necklace.
On my days off, I like to keep my makeup routine very simple. Here are a few of my makeup essentials for this au naturel look..
I always say, “I want to die knowing that I lived”, and to me that means enjoying every aspect of your life, especially the simple things; because it’s good for the soul. I’m dedicating this blog post to Christina’s mom, Anna, who recently lost her battle with cancer. Anna was a client of mine who had a zest for life. She was a kind and classy lady who had so much wisdom. We shared great stories together and she will be missed. Anna loved being around her friends and family, and adored her children. I feel fortunate to have been able to know her and her passing reminds me how important it is to live each day as if it’s your last. God Bless!
Peace and Love my friends!
