We’re gearing up for the Creme de la Creme Grand Wedding Showcase, happening this Sunday, November 2 at the Four Seasons Hotel, in Vancouver. This week I’m meeting with Coleen Karavidas, Owner of Bisou Bridal, to create the hair and makeup concept for Sunday’s fashion show.
Being surrounded by so many beautiful gowns reminds me of how much I love being married to my husband! To be honest, if I could, I would walk down the aisle a million times over with him, each time in a different dress! Can you imagine…
When did you open your boutique and how did you come up with the overall design and business concept?
I opened the store in 2004. The overall concept was to be a high- end bridal boutique, only providing the most beautiful gowns available to bride, and to match that with the best service possible.
There’s something so chic about wearing all black. No matter the occasion, black looks dramatic, it striking and works for every season. I feel so good in this fun and flirty pleated, imitation leather skirt. It’s so feminine and shows off the perfect amount of leg, while enhancing the narrowest part of my body, my waist. Accordion pleats are sometime hit and miss, as the pleats can pull open and make the body appear wider. This skirt, however, seems to fit perfectly and looks fantastic with this cropped scuba-inspired black tank. I accessorized this outfit with one of my favorite custom Elsa Corsi statement necklace and my floral print Manolo pump! This look is striking, feminine and classy; just the way I like it!
Try wearing this skirt with a demin collared shirt, plaid blazer and ankle booties for the office. And for a casual look, style it with a graphic sweater, converse sneakers, a multi-media denim jacket and a toque!
What can customers expect when they shop in your store?
Bride will be greeted with enthusiasm, expertise and the very best selection of gowns.
Who is your style inspiration/ icon and why?
Such a difficult question… I have been influenced and inspired by so many. One that comes to mind immediately is Oscar De La Renta. We were so saddened by his recent passing but fortunately, Natalie and I had the privilege of briefly meeting him in New York and he was so gracious to take the time to say hello.
What are your 5 beauty products you can’t live without?
Five Beauty Products that I can’t live with out: Image SkinCare Vital C Hydrating Anti-Aging Serum , Lancome Mascara, Dior Hydra Life Tinted Moisturizer, Mac Lip Gloss and Kerastase Nutritive Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz Serum.
What are your tips for womens who are shopping for the perfect dress?
- Start Early: This is one of the things that surprises everyone. You really need at least six to eight months to get your gown, and that’s if you’re really decisive.
- Research and have a price in mInd: Figure out what you like and narrow down a realistic price point. Then go for it!! Allow bridal stylists to help you; they may pick a different silhouettes and fabrics that you had in mind but you may be surprised. Have an open mind and have fun!! .
- Trust Your Instincts: If you picture yourself walking down the aisle in it, and you absolutely love it, you probably have found the right dress! Have some tissues handy; it will be an emotional moment!
- Travel with a small group (1 or 2 individuals). Bring a trusted friend or a family member!
- And a special tip/ reminder: This is the moment in life when it really is all about YOU! Enjoy this special time and have fun!
How do you determine what brands to carry in your store?
First and foremost, we listen to our customers! I am so fortunate to have a great team at Bisou; we work together to constantly reflect and review our styles and current inventory. We make sure it new and fresh because as we all know, it is all about the dress!
What do you prefer: New York or LA? Paris or Milan? Coffee or Tea? Stilettos or Flats? Leather or Lace? Sweet or Savory?
