Mascara Madness!

Mascara Madness!

By Vanessa Westerager:

Ready to bat those beautiful eye lashes? Some lucky ladies are blessed with naturally long thick eyelashes, and others would love it if they would share the wealth!  Mascara is one of those must-have products most women cannot leave the house without and finding the right one can be like finding that great pair of jeans – a huge task!  We’ve played with a few and here are just of some of our top picks for mascara!

Lancome Hypnose Doll Lash: Builds length and volume with a flared out effect at the outer corners for a “doll lash” look!

Guerlain Maxi Lash: Experience astonishing volume and staggering curl thanks to a high-performance polymer trio.

Marcelle Xtension Plus: Reach high heights with this length doubling curling mascara!

Covergirl Clump Crusher: Get 200% more volume with zero the clumps plus curl!

Benefit They’re Real: Get volumn, length and definition to your lashes with one coat, won’t smudge or dry out, you will have to convince people “they’re real!

Here are some of Nadia’s Tips…

  • “Opt for a lengthening mascara if you want to create clean and individually defined lashes.  The applicator is usually narrow with a plastic comb-like head, which provides individual lash length.”
  • “If it’s density and fullness you are after, a volumizing mascara is your best bet.  Note: volumizing mascara has a larger, fluffier applicator and is more fibrous, which may causes clumping and flaking.”
  • “Try applying an eyelash primer, prior to mascara, for added length and definition.  A primer often prevents flaking and comes off in tune-like fibers when removing with cleanser.”
  • “If primer is not your thing, try curling the lashes prior to mascara.  Two coats of mascara is usually best and be sure to coat both sides of the lashes (downward strokes and upward strokes)”
  • “Avoid applying mascara on the lower lashes if you are concerned with, or have problems with, your mascara running or smudging”

Awesome, Blossom!

Awesome, Blossom!

#whatruwearing – Boyfriend Jeans: Deisel Jeans| Sequin Top: Vintage | Shoes: Stuart Weitzman | Bag: Limited Edition Louis Vuitton Speedy Eden Argent, Holt Renfew | Teardrop Earrings: Elsa Corsi Jewellery, Jeweliette Jewellery | Ring: H&M | Nail Polish: Joe Fresh “Cherry Blossom”.

Spring in the air and the cherry blossoms are out in full bloom!  Despite the rain, these beautifully embellished natural fixtures are making our Vancouver streets look “pretty in pink” – LOVE!  The Sakura trees trace back to Japanese culture, where people would gather under these blooming beauties to feast on lunch (and sake) and admire the magic of Mother Nature.  From the end of March to early May, Sakura (cherry blossoms) bloom all over Japan, and out door parties are planned for what is known as “Hanami” or “flower viewing”.  Much like in Vancouver, many gather in various communities to photograph the blossoms and celebrate the beginning of Spring.

This week’s style series was inspired by Spring, and how nature influences fashion.  I love the softness and femininity of the pink flower blossoms against the rough texture of the tree bark and branches.  For me, it parallels the combination of these distressed boyfriend jeans paired with this delicate vintage sequin top.  The contrast of soft and hard, masculine and feminine, light and dark; compliment each other so well.   Once again, Daniella Guzzo managed to really capture my vision and delivered a stunning collection of photos — the perfect balance of soft lighting and crisp details.

If you have fair skin try a light pastel blue and dust on the eye lid for a subtle pop of colour. Not brave enough to rock blue on your eyelids? Try blue mascara! Or line your waterline with a blue pencil. Here are variations of blue makeup we love!

Noir…

#whatruwearing –  Black Dress and Cuff : Thrift Store | Shoes: Winners | Handbag: Vintage 1995 Chanel | Belt: Vintage Elsa Corsi

A few days after producing this shoot, I came across a 2008  TED talk clip featuring Jashua Klein called: “The Inelligence of Crows”.   I found it very interesting to learn that crows are very intelligent birds and extremely adaptable to their environment;  which led me to this week’s style piece — Noir!  A simple black dress is a wardrobe staple.  It can be a versitile piece that looks smart on and adapts well for any occasion.

There’s something about the color black that evokes a sense of drama, depth and mystery.  It’s classic, chic, elegant and sophisicated.  When wearing the color you feel powerful, formal, rebellious and a little edgy.  Dispite the fact that black is the complete absorbtion of light and is synonyms with fear, evil and even death;  I LOVE BLACK!

Photography by: Chris + Lynn Photographers

It’s hard to believe that it was January of 2011 when I was invited  to travel to Puerto Rico to do  hair and makeup for Cynthia and Derek’s destination wedding.  On the day-of, we were set up in a century old hotel call “El Convento”, which was once a convent, in Old San Juan.  The weather was perfect, energy was vibrant and the people were beautiful!  What an amazing group!  Thanks for letting me share in your special day!
