It was a sea of white as thousands of Vancouverites gathered at David Lamb Park, near Yaletown, to celebrate the 3rd Annual Diner En Blanc! It was my first year attending the event and I have to say, it was a wonderful way to spend a Thursday evening! Media were treated to complimentary refreshments and delicious aperitifs provided by Hawksworth Restaurant (thank you!), while guests attending the massive picnic arrived prepared with their tables, chairs, food and wine, to broke bread together. Many tables had decorative centerpieces and beautiful desserts and cakes, while some attendees even brought their furry friends including white doves! If a picnic in the park with 3,500 people wasn’t entertaining enough, live performances, dancers, stilt walker and musicians, adding a magical quality to the evening for all to enjoy.
The Diner En Blanc location was top secret, which means media and dinner participants were informed about the exact location one hour before the event kicked off. Thus, deciding on what to wear was left to the last minute and a tad stressful (I know…first world problems, right?!). Let’s keep in mind that the event would go on, rain or shine, so it was important for me to wear something that was versatile and comfortable. I decided on this sweet and delicately embroidered silk maxi dress by Club Monaco; a grecian inspired pieces with two high slits on either side of the legs exposing just the right amount of skin! For structure, I layered this lovely light weight, wool blazer over top and I loaded on delicate accessories for added personality, and carried this tan leather vintage clutch bag for contrast. To wear heels, or not to wear heel: that was the other question! Heels digging into the grass is not my idea of a “haute” look, so I went sans heels and opted for comfy flat sandals instead.
Layered necklaces, staked bracelets and multiple rings on each finger are fun ways to make a statement. These necklaces made were great conversation starters and an alternative to the traditional statement necklace! White-on-white Opal and Swarovski Crystal earring, from Jeweliette Jewllery, adorned my ears perfectly to compliment this outfit beautifully!
Estee Lauder is launching loads of fantastic product this Fall/Winter and I wanted to preview a few of them for you all to try. One of the items I couldn’t wait to play with is the Enlighten E-E (Even Effect) Skin Corrector with SPF 30. It protects and helps to even out the skin tone for a naturally radiant, more evened out complexion. It’s a sheer tinted color correcting product that creates a more uniform skin tone and color. To brighten under my eyes, I dabbed on Estee Lauder “Double Wear Brush- On BB Conealer”, or you can try Lauder’s NEW Re-Nutriv Ultra Radiance Consealer.
On my eyes, I’m wearing the NEW Pur Color Envy Scuplting Eye Shadow Palette in “Defiant Nude”. It’s comprised of neutral beiges and brown tones. I started by applying a wash of the lightest cream colored eye shadow on the entire eye lid. I then contoured my crease with the taupey-brown shade and used an angled brush to apply a strong shadow liner along the lash line. After curling my lashes and coated them with Sumptuous Infinite lengthening Mascara. For a soft and demure finish I’m wearing Aerin Beauty Rose Balm Lipstick in “Lady Beige”.
My new favorite scent is called “Iris Meadow” by Aerin Beauty. It’s a subtle and light floral that smells like an open filed in the countryside and contains notes of mandarin, black current, iris, and creamy cedarwood and woody musk. A must try!
Merci and congratulations to the Diner En Blanc organizers Tyson Villeneuve & Jordan Kallman for pulling off a lovely event. It was a memorable evening with friends, fashion, fantasy and fun. A night in white that I looking forward to next year!
