Love is in the air and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. It’s hard to believe that my husband and I will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary this year. We’ve been together for 15 years now and with each day that passes, my love for him grows more and more.
I remember our first encounter was when I was paying rent (how awkward…). I was a tenant in his parent’s basement and a year had gone by before we actually met in person. He answered the front door and I remember handing him an envelope with my rent money in it, along with a box of baked goods that I made for his mom and dad (I was really into baking back then). He seemed like a nice guy and that was that. To be honest, I had just ended a long term relationship several months prior and needed a break to be alone to gather my thoughts. Love was the last thing on my mind and I wasn’t even a tiny bit interested in entreating the thought of having a boy in my life! In fact I decided to date myself for a while. I was very happy investing time on myself by way of exercising, meditating, re-connecting with friends and writing my dreams and aspirations down in my journal. I had always been deeply connected with my spirituality but I guess this was a deeper spiritual journey that I was experiencing. It was an enlightenment of sorts.
It was at this point in my life where I realized that no one could love or believe in me the way I wanted them to until I started loving and believing in myself first. And that’s when my dream lover and soul mate, presented himself to me. Almost 8 months after we met at the front door, he knocked on my door and asked me out for a coffee date. We saw a movie instead and by our third date we both knew that we were going to be together for ever. Some say it was luck, but I believe it was serendipity!
Much like a relationship, a great outfit must make you look and feel confident, effortless, balanced, spontaneous and sexy.
Each of these pieces is an essential item in my wardrobe and I could not live without them. I practically LOVE and live in my Aritzia Daria Pant. They’re extremely versatile and very comfortable, AND they pair perfectly with both a heel and my Adidas “Superstar Foundation” sneakers. We are definitely an Adidas household and if you saw our shoe collection you’d think we were crazy. We even have “his and hers” Superstars!
Everyone needs a classic camel coat. I picked this one up at Aritzia over 4 years ago and it’s still holding strong. It’s called the Cocoon Wool Coat and it’s now on sale for $162.50. The graphic windowpane blouse by Joe Fresh is a favorite of mine as it looks chic and covers all the right areas. For a hint of sexy (just in time for Valentine’s Day), I’m wearing my red lace bralette, which peeks through the top of my blouse for a hint of spontaneity and color. Plus, it works so well with my red Alexander Wang Mini Rockie bag, which has been on repeat since I purchased it last fall.
Do: Roll up the sleeves of your outerwear jackets and pull them up. It creates a casual and unstructured look, especially now that the weather is warming up.
Do: Get into the habit of layering your clothes and accessories. It makes the outfit look more thoughtfully put togehter and stylish. And always remember my Style SacramentTM – DLDB: Dark, Light Dull Bright!
Do: Wear your sneakers to work. Depending on where you work you could get away with wearing them any time if you pair them with the right pieces and style the look in a clever way.
The Ear Climber:
I have two custom ear climbers by Elsa Corsi and they too have been on repeat since last November! Honestly, these sparkly little works of art can instantly elevate an outfit and add a little NadittudeTM to your look. When you go into Jeweliette Jewellery, ask for the Nadia Ear Climber! It’s a great Valentine’s Day gift idea, just saying!
And on that serendipitous note, I’m thrilled and humbled to announce that I’ve been invited back to this year’s “TED2016: DREAM” conferences, to support them in the hair and makeup department. I feel very privileged to be working behind the scenes, for the third year in a row, with some of the worlds greatest thinkers, artists and storytellers. If you have never experienced a TED Talk, I highly recommend watching online or attending the event. It’s extremely inspiring and compelling, and give you a different perspective on life. Peace and Love, and Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
