It’s so great to be home after almost a month of traveling to the East Coast (Burrr…it’s cold back there!) Both trips to New York and Toronto proved to be very fruitful and reminded me that I truly LOVE what I do!
While I was away, I had the pleasure of meeting writer, producer and motivational speaker, Stuart Knight. He is the author of “You Should Have Asked – The Art of Powerful Conversation” and “The Madness of My Mind” and has been seen and heard on some of Canada’s biggest TV and Radio stations.
With incredible energy and enthusiasm, he delivered a talk entitled “5 Decisions All Winners Make”. Each point that he made in his presentation really resonated with me. So much so, that I had to blog about it! You see, over the past 17 years I have been working steadily to create the life that I currently live and love today. I get to do what I love, while being surrounded by the people that mean the most to me. Not to get all “Oprah Winfrey” on you (FYI… I do love that woman!), throughout my journey of authenticity I’ve had to make many decisions, both personally and professionally. Many decisions were great, while others were not so great…in fact quite difficult. Admittedly, some choices defeated me but in the end the all of my choices have helped me to become a winner in life. Here are some points Stuart had to share, which I hope inspire you to reflect on your special qualities, and make YOU the winner that you were born to be!
#1. Choose to dilberately take pride in who you are and what you do before becoming successful.
I have always been a very visual person; a daydreamer, if you will. Since a young age, I imagined how my life would unfold; what my career would look like, the environment in which I work and live, and whom I choose to surrounded myself with. I believe thoughts are things and that anything can be manifested, when you put pen to paper and put your mind to it. For example, before moving into my studio space on West 1st Ave, I used to walk through neighborhood (back in 1998-ish) imagining my business being here. I even wrote about it in my journal. Although it didn’t happen immediately, I believed it would. I focused on taking pride in who I aspired to be and in the work that I did, and here we are today!
#2. Choose to control fear rather than letting fear control you.
To me, fear is that nauseating feeling you get in your gut when you have to make a critical decision. I believe that fear is not always a bad thing. It keeps me on my toes and helps me take calculated risks. My good friend, Lucas Matiello, founder of Level Up Living, is a motivational speaker and life coach. He encourages people to look fear straight in the eye and beat it. Often times we let fear get in our heads, which can be paralyzing. I learned to get out of my own head, and rather than letting my fears guide me through life, I choose to work through it and experience the opportunities that fear brings.
#3. Tap into your creative genius.
We are all born to do great things. I fortunately discovered my creative genius at a young age. I always wanted to work with the public and make people feel good about themselves. I loved playing dress up and hair dresser and eventually figured out a way to do this for a living, cause it was simply fun! My philosophy is, do things that you love and that you’re passionate about, even if it’s a part-time thing, and you will feel fulfilled. Success will follow!
#4. Choose to have thicker skin and embrace the pain.
I learned early in life, especially in my line of business, that I can’t please everyone. As much as I wish I could and would love to please everyone, the reality is that not everyone clicks. Rather than focusing on how awkward or painful a situation was and get down on myself for it, I learned to absorb it, reflect on it and celebrate the positive moments instead. I guess this is where the term “growing pains” comes from. Yes, it sucks for a moment but then you get over it. Here is what some of you had to say about your experiences with our team at Nadia Albano Style Inc. We appreciate your kind words and encouragement!
“What a wonderful experience with Annelie today!!!!…….after a consultation, she reshaped my hair……wonderful personality, great creativity and flair……with genuine caring…!!! Very skilled at her craft. I would definitely recommend this salon and particular Stylist. I will return when I need a cut next time. Great location, and beautiful salon as well!!

“I’ve been a client of Nadia’s for over 3 years and can’t say enough great things about her. I randomly stumbled upon her a few years ago and decided to make an appointment. From then on, I was hooked. She welcomed me like I was family and truly listened to what I wanted and any concerns I had. I must say I am very particular and hard to please but she has always exceeded my expectations. She’s not only a talented hairstylist but an amazing make-up artist/fashion consultant/the list goes on. If you want the complete package, go see her!!!”
#5. Reach for the unreachable.
I always strive to do and be better in every aspect of my life. I’ve accomplished so many wonderful things in life thus far, and often find myself saying ” Wow, I can’t believe I made that happen!” I like to think of myself as being a “do-er”. When I remain humble and focused, I know that I have the power to achieve anything I wish!

Thank you for your years of loyalty and support; it’s a pleasure serving you and learning from you!
