Mother’s Day is just around the corner and to celebrate my mom, I asked the lovely and talented, Daniella Guzzo, to photograph a portrait session for us. As tradition has it, we’ve been doing these styled photo shoots for the past three years and they are so much fun; I highly recommend! It gives us a great excuse to get dolled up, spend time together and create memories. My mom is quite the character. She’s always cracking jokes and seems to find humor in everything! She seriously has the best one-liners ever, even when they don’t always make sense in her cute little Italian accent. Seriously though, I cherish our time spent together and feel extremely fortunate to have such a beautiful, strong, vibrant, enthusiastic and uber stylish woman to look up to everyday.
You never cease to amaze me in all that you do; you are the best and I love you so much mama!
We decided on a black and white color theme for this year’s shoot and shopped our own closets. We pulled together two very cute ensembles, which are perfectly suited for an afternoon with mom.
- Mom’s Outfit – Mom is wearing this adorable, light-weight polka-dot sheath dress that she purchased in Italy several years ago. A polka-dot print is super playful and this sheath cut fits her perfectly. In fact, this cut is flattering on every body type! She added a patten leather belt to cinch in and define her waist, and coordinated the look with these fabulous black and white cross-strap pumps, also from Italy.
- My Outfit – I love the look of horizontal black and white stripes. It’s chic, always in style and contrasts mom’s polka-dot print perfectly. My top is from a cute little boutique in New York, (which I featured in a previous style post called “Momiji Gardens“) . I wanted to show a little skin and opted for these fabulous black shorts by DKNY from Winners. I layered on this structured white blazer vest, also from Winners, to incorporate a light and bright airy feeling. When trying this look, be sure that the length of the blazer sits at least one inch above a shorter hemline to maintain balanced and proportion. My shoes are by Chelsea Paris from Wardrobe Apparel in Gastown. These sandals are so fun and were definitely a great investment as they work with pretty much everything in my closet!
Thank you Daniella, for taking these beautiful photos. My mom is going to LOVE them!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms out there! – xo
