We’re full-on into the summer season and with so many weddings and summer events happening all around the city, I thought I’d show you how to play up your summer look with a few of my favorite long-wearing products. This week’s look features a softly contoured shadow with a defined eyeliner and a beautiful, bold and bright matte lip – LOVE!!
1. Cleanse, moisturize and prime the face.
I started by moisturizing my face with Mereadesso All-in-One Moisturizer, them primed the skin using Make Up For Ever Nurishing Primer, to prepare the skin for foundation.
2. Even out the complexion with foundation
I dispensed one and a half pumps of Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation #118 onto the back of my hand and used a foundation brush to apply the product on my face. Starting at the center of my face, I gently blended on the foundation and worked my way toward the outer part of the face to help even out my complexion and minimize any imperfections.
3. Apply eye shadow primer
Before applying eye shadow, I dabbed MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in “Soft Ochre” onto my eyelid using my fingers. This particular color is great for brightening the eye lid while toning down any redness, and acts as a base for the eye shadow to adhere to. It’s long wearing, crease proof and and has a matte finish which ideal for women with oily eye lids. Available in a multitude of colors and finishes and very user friendly!
Tip:
Use this MAC Paint Pot on it’s own to create a clean, bright look on days where you don’t have time to do your makeup. No brushes needed, just your fingers. I often compliment this look with a bright lip color, which is great for every day and often my go-to look!
4. Contour and add depth to the eyes.
Using my large fluff blending brush, I applied Make Up Geek Eye Shadow in “Frappe” into the crease of the eye lid to create softness and dimension.
Next, I applied the same eye shadow as above onto the lower lash line using a tapered crease brush. This dresses the lower lash line and helps to define the eye shape more.
I dipped my tapered crease brush into the Makeup Up Geek Eye Shadow called “Show Time”, and applied the shadow pricisly into the the corner of the crease to further deepen and define the eye shape. It’s important to focus on the keeping the color in this corner part of the eye to build up the depth of color for this look.
Tip:
Draw a shadow line along the upper lash line, rather than a hard eye line, to softly define the lashes before applying mascara. It’s a nice alternative to using pencil or liquid liner.
Finally, I apply a highlighter shadow to the brow bone and onto the inner corner of the eye lid. I’m using Make Up Geek’s “Magic Act”.
5. Brighten under the eyes with concealer
Using a large concealer brush, I applied Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer #3 under my eyes to soften my dark shadows and imperfections. I also like to use concealer to clean up and uplift the outer corner of the eye giving me an instant eye lift.
6. Curl the eyelashes and apply mascara
I’m in love with the Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara. It really amplifies and extends the lashes. Notice that I also tight lined my eyes by rimming the water line with Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Eyeliner in 1L .
7. Fill in the eyebrows
I’m really enjoying the NYX Micro Brow Pencils. I picked it up at London Drugs, by recommendation, to test it out. It cost $8 and comes in various brow shades ranging from blond to dark brown, It’s one of my hust-have brow correcting product on the market and use it in my pro kit.
8. Contour the face with bronzer and blush
I’m not a fan of overly contour the face and like to use bronzer to define by bone structure. I’m using Stila Stay All Day Bronzer to contour the face and warm up the complexion. I also added a hint of pink blush.
9. Highlight the face
A glowing complexion is never a bad idea and I love dusting MAC’s Mineralized Skinfinish in “Soft and Gentle” on to the high points of the face such as my cheek bones, bridge of the nose and brow bone. It gives a very natural looking glow and reflects light beautifully on the skin.
10. Apply lipstick
On my lips I’m wearing Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick family is a shade called “Como”; a lovely and vibrant violet shade with a cool undertone. These lipsticks definately stay all day and will not move for up to 6 hours! They come in twenty shades and have just released five new spring shades.
Tip:
Apply a lip conditioner on the lips prior to applying these lipsticks as they are very matte and can appear to make the lips dry looking. Alternatively, dab on a hint of lipgloss to the center of the mouth and blend your lips together, for a dewy and reflective finish.
