A perfect day spent with my mom often starts with a little stroll and some type of window shopping. Being Italian, breaking bread together is extremely important to us, so we grab lunch, followed by coffee and dessert (Obvi!). As we consume our sweet treats, we catch up on our funny, and sometimes not so funny, day-to-day experiences we encounter in our lives. We laugh, we cry, and most of all, we goof around like silly little school girls! People must think we’re crazy, but we don’t care because we never take ourselves too seriously anyway! A day together is never quite complete with out a visit to our favorite thrift stores; which almost always ends with successful results. You know, if there’s one thing my mother always taught me, it’s to be resourceful. She always said, “make due with what you have and make everything you have special!”; and she definitely leads by example on this. My love for second-hand and vintage shopping is influenced by my mom, primarily because at one point in our lives it was a necessity. No matter where we go, be it Italy, San Francisco or here in Vancouver, we always find time to go thrift shopping. It’s our “thing”! This week’s style series highlights exactly that. We’re each wearing a thrift store find, inspired by the S/S 2015 runway trends, which we’ve “made special” in our own way
If you look at Alberta Ferretti’s S/S 2015 collection, along with Gucci and Chloe, you’ll notice a few suede pieces in the collection that are very similar to this skirt. I found this gorgeous A-line suede skirt for $14, It’s in impeccable condition and has a beautiful crocheted trim and fringe, which offers a pretty feminine detail. I styled it with this simple cream colored, one-sleeve blouse, which I picked up at Zara a few years ago, so not to compete with the skirt. I slipped these metallic, single strap sandals on my feet, which I found at Winners for $50, to elongate the leg and elevate the look. In keeping with the metallic theme, I kept my accessories minimal with these gold hoop earrings (a gift from mom), stacked bangles, and of course my signature #NADITTUDETM necklace from Jeweliette Jewellery. Let’s not forget the custom eternity ring by Minichello Jewellers.
Mom’s Outfit Details:
The butterfly motif, along with embellishment and shine, are huge trends this season, as seen in Valentino , Stella McCartney and Tom Ford’s collections. We scooped up this pretty and ornate sequin top for only $12 and the best part about it is that it can be styled in so many different ways, for various occasions and in all seasons. I paired it with these white skinny jeans from Joe Fresh; another Spring/Summer must-have item. The white jeans bring a crisp and airy feel to this ensemble, while the brown suede peep-toe, sling-back heels bring the full look together and tie into the colors in the blouse. I accessorized mom’s look with these sparkling Swarovski crystal stud earring from Jeweliette Jewellery, and nothing else. They are the perfect gift for Mother’s Day and she LOVES them!.

When styling mom’s hair into this loose cascading hair style, I started by spraying KMS “Moist Repair Leave-In Conditioner” on towel dry hair, to quench her dry ends. I then blow dryer it with a medium round brush to create a soft side-sweeping fringe. Next, I sprayed KMS “Free Shape 2-in-1 Styling and Finishing Spray” to her hair, for heat activated shape and hold, and curled it vertically using a 1.5 inch curling iron. Starting at the nape, I picked up a small curled 1 inch piece of hair, lightly sprayed with KMS “Dry Wax Spray”, back pushed the hair and pinned it into place with a bobby pin. I continued this technique, bringing a piece from the left and right side of the head to an off-center placement, and draped each section over until I reached the top of the head. I touched up her right side with the curling iron, and finished the look with a little more Dry Wax and KMS “Hair Stay – Anti Humidity Seal” for 24hr waterproofing. This up style is super relaxed and easy to create; not to mention, extremely versatile.

As I get older, I truly understand and value how lucky I am to have my mom around, and how important it is to spend quality time with her. Ever since I can remember, my mom and I have always had an open and honest relationship, with many unique moments that only her and I will ever share. In fact, I’m pretty sure my siblings share their own intimate and unique moments with mom too, which only they can experience cherish together. I’m also very certain that I speak on behalf of both my brother and sister when I say how fortunate and blessed we are to have the relationship we do with this special, one-of-a-kind, incredible and oh-so-stylish woman we call mom. We love you mamma; you are adorable and beautiful like a butterfly!
