You know it’s October when the air starts feeling crisper, the leaves transform into tones of rusty-coppers and warm-auburn, and our cravings for Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte’s overwhelm us! Seriously though, it’s the time of year that makes me feel most nostalgic and emotional, in a good way. Could it be because a) Libra is the astrological sign of October, that my moon is in Libra? b) That I’m an extremely sensitive and sentimental person? Or…c) is it simply because I am overwhelmed with the abundance of love and respect I have for this beautiful life that I’ve been afforded? Now, before I start getting all Georgia Nicols on everyone and waaaay out of balance, here’s a peek at one of my latest thrift store finds. It’s current my EVERYTHING, simply because it’s thee perfect Autumn dress!
A dress similar to the one that I’m wearing has been photographed and featured on many of the blogs and Instagram feeds I admire; two of which are A Fashion Love Affair and Hello Fashion Blog . Now, I’m sure you are already following these beautiful ladies, and if you’re not, you should seriously check out their Insta feeds (@carajourdan @hellofashionblog)! The dress they’re wearing is from a brand called Self-Portrait ($910) and it’s currently no longer in stock (sadly!). If you check out the online store called Revolve you can shop the Self-Portrait collection and many other brands, with plenty of variety for both men and women.
My love for second-hand shopping is not a secret and as I mentioned above, the dress that I’m wearing is from Value Village. I purchased it for $16.99. It’s in great condition, fits perfectly in length and in the bust area, and works quadruple duty for all of our seasons in Vancouver! It seriously always amazes me what I can find when thrifting. I feel good about knowing that I can be stylish on a budget and, in a small way, save the planet through reusing and rethinking fashion!
Being that the dress is a trapeze cut with voluminous accordion pleating, it needed a little structure, so I styled it with my black leather jacket – a wardrobe staple! I anchored the look with my suede peep-toe “shoots” (shoe-boot), which works with the overall Fall vibe of this ensemble. I added my vintage clutch for an element of softness and romance; tying in perfectly with the lace trim on the off-the-shoulder design.
To define your shape, simply add a belt to cinch in the waist.
For an unconventional styling option, try wearing a lightweight fitted knit underneath, if you wish to cover up the shoulders.
You may recall that earlier this year, I took part in the Value Village “Thrift Style Challenge” event at Vancouver’s Eco Fashion Week. Our friends at Eco Fashion Week are excited to launch the 11th edition of the show in Seattle, Washington, this November 1st – 4th. It’s going to be a fantastic event and it would be a fun road trip to plan with some fashionable friends! For more information about the event, please click here. In the mean time, have a fantastic weekend. I hope you get a chance to do a little thrifting, and if you find anything cute out there, feel free to tag me on Instagram – @nadiaalbanostyleinc !
